August SCREC Meeting 2011

Tonight’s Speaker
David Johnson, Seminole County Property Appraiser talked tonight about the property taxes created for this fiscal year. In 2010 Seminole County collected just under 33.8B in taxable property. This is in contrast to the taxable property of around 46B. The positives in the market are that the list penence’s are down over 30%, this means that the market “might” be coming into balance for foreclosurers.

The market assessed rate will only go up by 1.5% for roughly 40k homes in Seminole County. Compared with the same assesment rate last year the market rate went up for 90k+ homes. This is for the difference in market rate and taxable rate still for some of these homes.

So this year you might actually see the price of your home drop. The average home will pay approximatley between $2,061 (unicorporated Seminole) to $2,600 (Sanford). So this year’s mileage rate….wait for it… 5.1181.

Thank to David Johnson for talking to the group tonight!

LAKE MARY – On Saturday, July 30th, 2011, the Republican Party of Seminole County hosted its 2011 Reagan Lincoln Dinner at the Lake Mary Westin. The Keynote Speaker was Governor Brian Sandoval, the 30th Governor of the State of Nevada, who is known nationally as a rising Republican star and who has gained attention for his commitment to business and conservative issues.

The dinner was attended by over 240 people with several candidates and elected officials in attendance. The event was also an extremely successful fundraiser for the Republican Party of Seminole County as it prepares for the 2012 election.

Elected officials who spoke at the event included Seminole County Commission Chairwoman Brenda Carey who discussed the challenges facing Seminole County as well as Florida Speaker Designate Representative Chris Dorworth and Representative Jason Brodeur who discussed the 2011 legislative session and the budget crisis.
In honor of the Centennial of the Birth of President Ronald Reagan, the Honorable Bill McCollum delivered remarks about serving in Congress during the Reagan Presidency and the legacy of one of America’s most beloved Presidents. A tribute video then followed highlighting some of President Reagan’s greatest speeches.

As part of his Keynote Address, Governor Brian Sandoval gave a stirring speech on the economic crisis impacting his state and the issues he has faced in Nevada as well as the issues facing all Governors throughout the United States. Governor Sandoval further touched upon President Reagan’s lasting impact upon his own life. Governor Sandoval concluded to a standing ovation by expressing his optimism about the future and his strongly held belief that by working together we will overcome the difficult times we currently face.

The event closed with two leading US Senate Candidates, the Honorable Adam Hasner, former Majority Leader of the Florida House, and the Honorable George LeMieux, former U.S. Senator, giving their perspective on the debt crisis and their respective visions for the future of Florida.

At the end of the event, the Governor made himself available to young and old alike to discuss their concerns about America’s future and for autographs. Those in attendance expressed what a truly inspirational speech the Governor had just delivered and that they were grateful to hear him speak. Upon the conclusion of the event, Republican Party of Seminole County Chairman Al Schwarz stated that he felt “we need more individuals like Governor Sandoval involved in public service and I look forward with great optimism his future as someone with the vision to make a positive difference in our country.”

Florida House Passes Bills to Reenact Interstate Juvenile Compact and Repeal Ineffectual Bureaucratic Requirements

BrodeurApril 19, 2011

The Florida House passed HB 4097 which is an act related to repealing budget provisions sponsored by Representative Jason Brodeur. The act effectively reduces ineffectual bureaucratic requirements which mandated that state agencies and the judiciary submit a one page summary of unit cost spending to the legislature every year. The legislature did not use any of the summary information to make appropriations decisions, policy decisions or accountability analysis. The bill eliminates this bureaucratic requirement and frees up state resources to deliver meaningful services to Floridians.

The Florida house also passed HB 1029 which reenacts provisions of the interstate compact for juveniles. This bill was also sponsored by Representative Brodeur. The bill serves to reenact provisions relating to the interstate compact which assists in coordinating efforts through an interstate agreement to cover multi-state problems involving juveniles. The compact focuses on the safe return of runaways as well as the proper supervision and return of delinquents and status offenders who are found in other states.

Both bills have been submitted to the Florida Senate.
